A little about us
We are Bolia and Sarah. Sisters. Co-directors of Black Doulas UK CIC. And two women who know what it feels like to search for support in a system that was not built with us in mind.
When Sarah was pregnant she looked for a doula who would truly understand her. Not just someone qualified. Someone who would walk into that room with her and make her feel seen without her having to explain herself first. That search was harder than it should have been.
Watching that happen broke something open in Bolia. And Black Doulas UK was born.
What started as a simple directory, a place where Black birthing people could find trusted Black doulas, grew into something we could not have fully imagined at the beginning. A community. A movement. And earlier this month, an officially registered Community Interest Company.
That last part matters. It means our mission is protected by law. Every penny we raise has to go back into the community we serve. We would not have it any other way.
Here is what keeps us up at night
Right now, somewhere in the UK, there is a Black mother navigating pregnancy without anyone truly in her corner. Going to appointments alone. Leaving feeling unheard. Walking into a birth room afraid.
Not because she does not deserve better. But because the support she needs is out of reach financially.
That is the part we cannot sit with. And that is why we created the Support Fund for Black Mothers and Birthing People.
What your support will do
Every donation goes towards three things that we genuinely believe will change lives.
Funded doula support for black women and birthing people who cannot afford it. Because the quality of your birth experience should never depend on your bank balance.
Free workshops and online sessions where Black mothers and birthing people can access the information they deserve. From fertility all the way through to postpartum. Meeting our community wherever they are on the journey.
Safe spaces. Real ones. Online and in person. Where Black mothers and birthing people can gather, breathe, connect, and feel genuinely held by people who understand.
Nothing complicated. Just community showing up for community. The way it always has.
This is us asking
Our initial target is £3,000. But this fund has no end date because the need does not have one either. Every donation made today, next week, or next year goes directly to the people who need it most.
